WATCH: Novak Djokovic attends his brother’s wedding after skipping Davis Cup citing personal reasons
Novak Djokovic
Novak Djokovic had a tough start to the year due to his unvaccinated status which has been a major roadblock for the Serbian over his participation chances at the tournaments. His firm stance on not getting vaccinated has landed him in a lot of trouble and hence had to skip playing at two out of the four Grand Slam tournaments of the year. Due to the long absence, he is no longer placed in the Top 5 of the rankings.
It all started with his deportation from Australia even after entering the country on a valid visa. But failing to comply with the Australian immigration rules which imply that once a person is deported, then won’t be allowed to enter for three years. If the deportation was not enough, Djokovic faced another setback when imposed a visa ban for three years.
Novak Djokovic spotted with his wife Jelena at his brother’s wedding
Novak Djokovic was unable to defend his title at the Australian Open due to his absence from the tournament. He had a late start to the year and won his first title of the year at the Italian Open. But he lost in the quarter-finals of the French Open losing to the eventual winner Rafael Nadal.
Amidst all the challenges and controversies on his professional front, he clinched his 7th Wimbledon title defeating Nick Kyrgios, and remains undefeated for the past four years. With this win, he is just one major away from equalling his arch-rival Nadal’s record of 22 Grand Slam singles titles. He withdrew from the 2022 US Open failing to comply with the US guidelines to enter the country and even when things didn’t turn his way.
Djokovic was spotted attending his brother Djordje Djokovic‘s wedding along with his wife Jelena Djokovic and other family members at St. Mark’s Church in Belgrade, the capital city of Serbia. He even gave bills to the trumpeters in front of the church. He looked dapper in a dark blue suit and was enjoying his time with his family.
Djokovic was supposed to make his comeback at the Davis Cup and has not played since Wimbledon but he decided to skip playing citing personal reasons. He will likely make his comeback at the laver Cup in Team Europe who will be fighting for the fifth title.
