During his last group stage match at the 2022 ATP Finals, Stefanos Tsitsipas expressed his frustration with his box and fired a ball at them indicating them to stop talking. Tsitsipas faced Andrey Rublev in a virtual quarterfinal contest which he lost in three sets 6-3,3-6,2-6 and crashed out of the tournament. He finished the tournament with two losses and a win against Daniil Medvedev.

The 2019 champion played a very solid first set and looked in total control of the match but things changed drastically in the second set. He lost his momentum courtesy of Rublev’s brilliance but couldn’t do anything to counter it. He was very frustrated in the majority of the second and third sets and his box was adding fuel to the fire.

Tsitsipas’ father, who is also his coach was in his box along with his mother. Due to the on-court coaching rule, his box was very active throughout the last two sets given that Stef wasn’t playing well. It got to a point where Stef was being coached after almost every point and when his mother yelled “Don’t be lazy! Don’t be lazy!”, it got into his head.

He smashed the ball in fury toward his box, showing them to let him focus and play. He wanted the constant bickering gone as he wanted to continue the rest of his match in peace.
