Paul and Fritz
The seventh-seed from America, Tommy Paul steals the show with a mind-blowing shot in the second set tie-break against Taylor Fritz. In an all-American semifinal clash in Mexico, Paul is setting the stage on fire with his incredible athleticism. An in-form and experienced Fritz had no answer to this stunner from Paul and lost the point.
Paul started the semifinal on high winning the first set comfortably at 6-3. However, Fritz didn’t give up and fought hard for the second set and it led to a tie-breaker. The entire tie-breaker was nail-biting as it had a lot of drop shots, rallies, and fantastic winners. Tommy Paul showed his class and dominated Fritz to win the match 6-3, 6-7(2-7), 7-6(7-2).
Tommy Paul has absolutely been business all year. He had a fantastic season so far as he reached the semifinals of the Australian Open as an unseeded. He later went on to play in the Delray Beach Open but lost in the quarterfinals. However, Paul is looking to make amends for his loss in both tournaments.
On the other hand, World No. 5 Fritz has had an impressive record this year, winning 14 out of 17 matches, including three challenging ones against John Isner, Denis Shapovalov, and Frances Tiafoe. This semifinal clash has been nothing short of a finals thriller. Nevertheless, Fritz couldn’t go past Paul and lost in the semis.
