Emma Raducanu

Emma Raducanu, the 19-year-old skyrocketed her fame after she won the US Open 2021 after beating Leylah Fernandez in the finals last year, she scripted history last year after becoming the first-ever qualifier to win a Grand Slam, the teenager was hailed as a prodigy after she didn’t drop a single set throughout the tournament as she went on to lift the title.

Although after winning her maiden Grand Slam, Raducanu has had an underwhelming season as she has been eliminated very early from every major this season, the Brit will be looking to change that as the US Open fast approaches and she will be planning on defending her title.

It has not been an easy journey for Emma Raducanu though, after making her debut at Washington, she opened up on the sacrifices she has had to make to reach this level. Being new to this level, the young Brit has had a tough season and with new coach Dmitry Tursunov, Raducanu will be looking to turn her fortune around as the US Open is right around the corner.

On the sacrifices she has had to make, Raducanu said, “One of the biggest things for me was probably during my school. Because I was missing so much school from like 8. And you know how the secondary school is. All the kind of friendship groups are formed in year 7, 8, 9. And they are constantly changing in those early few years. So if you are not there, you kind of get isolated and forgotten about. I sort of made peace with that later on. But I’d say that not having as many friends from school is probably one of the biggest sacrifices I had to make.

With her new coach who is just here on a temporary basis as of right now, Dmitry Tursunov and Emma Raducanu will be working together to improve on her season and try to successfully defend her US Open title.
