‘I feel a bit sorry for him’: Nishikori on Djokovic
Another big name who has been absolutely sensational throughout this year, who was expected to win the Gold at the Olympics but fell short by quite some distance is Novak Djokovic. Djokovic started off in incredible fashion and thrashed his opponents in after the other.
However, he was caught off guard by Alexander Zverev in the semis and after that, he was defeated by Pablo Carreño Busta in the Bronze medal match which prevented him from winning any medal. Commenting on Novak’s astonishing defeat, Japanese tennis star Kei Nishikori said that he deserved to win Gold at the biggest sporting extravaganza.
Nishikori said that he expected Djokovic to win and he felt sorry after the Serbian tennis star failed to win any medal at the Olympics. “I expected Djokovic would win the gold medal in Tokyo. I feel a bit sorry for him, he definitely deserves a medal the most at the moment. He has had unbelievable results,” he said.
Djokovic, who was eyeing the Golden Slam unfortunately couldn’t achieve what he aspired for, but he is expected to strike form yet again. The top tennis star is expected to come all guns blazing into the US Open as he would be itching to reign supreme yet again on the court.
