Talk about Roland Garros and one cannot not talk about Rafael Nadal. The Spaniard’s association with the French Open is known to all tennis followers, across the globe. Ever since Nadal made his debut at the event in 2005, he has been making an impact at the French capital.

In fact, 20-time Grand Slam has won the French Open a whopping 13-times in her celebrated career. A record that is likely to hold in times to come. Not only has Nadal won the competition more than dozen times, he has also got a statue erected after him, at Roland Garros.

Having registered a colossal 105 wins to only three defeats on the clay of Paris, Nadal has left an indelible mark on the tournament. Regardless of what the future might be, the 35-year-old will remain the greatest champion to have ever played at the French Open.

Meanwhile, renowned tennis coach Patrick Mouratoglou feels that Nadal’s domination at Roland Garros might slowly come to an end. With age and the advent of next generation in play, the Spanish hero might find going tough.

The French coach said that it will no longer be a question of who plays Rafa in the finals of Roland Garros. Mouratoglou expects Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev and Stefanos Tsitsipas to make an impact soon.

“When Roland Garros starts the only thing you don’t know is who Rafa is going to beat in the final. Now it’s a different story. Stefanos is one of the guys who can do it, win Grand Slams, and become number one. Medvedev and Zverev too.”

Interestingly, both the German and the Greek enjoyed their time on the clay of Paris in 2021. While the two locked horns in the semis of the recently concluded edition, Tsitsipas went onto the beat Zverev and ended up losing to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in five, epic sets.

While Nadal remains one of the prime contenders to win the French Open, along with the Serb, aforementioned players from the next generation surely have the skill and ability to be the future champions.
