Reilly Opelka, Venus and Serena Williams
Serena and Venus Williams dominated women’s tennis for almost two decades. The Williams sisters have paved the way for many young girls to join the sport and have been true role models. They share a whopping 30 singles grand slams between them and are probably one of the most decorated sisters duo in all of sports.
Ahead of Indian Wells Masters, big serving American Reilly Opelka spoke highly about Venus Williams. Opelka, who is rumored to be dating Venus, spoke about Venus’ competitive nature and how he’s learnt a lot from her.
“She’s an absolute badass,” he said. “I learned more from her than any other active player. She’s brilliant – a fierce competitor. She works extremely differently than anyone else. The great ones think differently. And she’s hilarious – she has a great sense of humor. I enjoy being around her and learning from her.”
‘If it weren’t for Serena, Venus would be the greatest woman player of all time’: Reilly Opelka

Opelka further added that Venus is extremely competitive and cannot withstand losing. To take things forward, he said that if Serena Williams weren’t there on tour, Venus would’ve been the best female player of all time. He even added that there’s no Serena without Venus.
“She’s insanely competitive – as fierce as there’s ever been. Absolutely cannot tolerate losing – it makes her sick to think about it,” Opelka added. “She doesn’t even reflect on her wins. She stays in the moment. If it weren’t for Serena she’d be the greatest woman player of all time. Then again, there’s no Serena without Venus. So you almost have to give it to them both.”
On tour, Opelka bowed out of the third round at Indian Wells. He lost to Bulgarian 23rd seed Grigor Dimitrov in straight sets 6-3,6-4. Opelka will now travel back to Europe to play the European Open at Antwerp next week.
