Roman Safiullin is among the rising names on the ATP Tour. The Russian was born on August 7, 1997, in the city of Podolsk, which is situated near Moscow. Given the depth of Russian men’s tennis, Safiullin has vastly gone under the radar.

The 25-year-old tennis player is currently coached by the former Russian tennis player Andrey Kuznetsov. He was initially introduced to the sport at the early age of four by his father. His father was a tennis coach at a tennis academy, hence the sport runs in his family. He grew up idolizing the likes of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer, who are popularly a part of the ‘Big -3 Tribe’.

Roman Safiullin also drew inspiration from fellow Russian tennis players such as Andrey Rublev, Daniil Medvedev, and Karen Khachanov. The last couple of years have seen some breakthrough performances from Russians on the men’s circuit. Safiullin has the caliber to be among the top players in the world, given that he remains injury free.

Roman Safiullin’s coach Andrey Kuznetsov is a former tennis player

Andrey Kuznetsov started out his career by winning the Boy’s Singles title at Wimbledon 2009. He reached his career-best ranking of World No. 39 back in 2016. After a career spanning almost a decade, the Russian took a break from tennis in 2018. He started his coaching career by joining Evgeny Donskoy‘s camp in 2019.

Andrey Kuznetsov made a return to tennis in 2020 when he even claimed a Challenger title. However, he shifted his attention back to his coaching career as he joined Roman Safiullin’s camp in 2023. Over the course of his career, Kuznetsov competed at the Summer Olympic Games and had some pretty decent results on the ATP Tour.

Roman Safiullin announced himself on the big stage at 2023 Wimbledon when he made it to the second week of a Grand Slam event for the first time in his career. The Russian prefers playing on the grass courts, as it suits his style of game. He is not among the fastest servers around, however; he has a pretty aggressive style of play.
