Incidents of brain fade and momentary anger in tennis have gotten quite frequent in the last few months. Many players, especially across the ATP circuit tend to lose their cool and vent out their anger on the court. Alexander Zverev smashed his racket violently on the umpire’s chair a few weeks ago at Acapulco and as a result, was thrown out of the tournament. On March 24 in Miami, Jenson Brooksby too lost his cool during the third set.

After losing the point, Brooksby violently threw his racket on the ground which bounced back to hit the ball boy. The ball boy could be seen saving himself from the racket bounce and handed the American back his racket. On the footage, Brooksby wasn’t seen apologizing to the concerned person.

Brooksby received a point penalty for his actions and was cleared by the ATP. Fans, some fellow players, and tennis pundits have now called out the ATP for not defaulting Brooksby for his action. The debate has once again been sparked after this incident about whether the ATP is being too soft in its ruling.

People have demanded stricter laws for these kinds of incidents. Even after Zverev’s incident, he was just fined and no realistic suspension was imposed on him.

Tennis journalists and fans have lashed at Brooksby and have called out ATP’s doubles standards on the incident on social media.

Federico Coria, Brooksby’s opponent, too was clear that Brooksby was out of the line and should’ve been defaulted.
