Away from motherhood duties, Serena has not experienced a fruitful season on the WTA tour thus far in 2020. After making the semifinals of the Australian Open, earlier in the year, the 39-year-old got sidelined due to an injury. She only returned during the clay season in Rome, where she was shown the door prematurely.

Later in Paris, just when it appeared that the former champion was finding her groove, she got dumped in the fourth round by Elena Rybakina. Worse was to follow at 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The seven-time winner experienced an unfortunate fall on Centre Court, which led to her shocking withdrawal from the tournament, teary eyed.

Despite, the 23-time Grand Slam being a Gold medallist at the Olympic Games in London in 2012, Serena decided to pull out of the mega event in Tokyo. Going forward, Serena will be seen in action at the upcoming Cincinnati Open and later at the US Open, where she will have yet another opportunity to equal Margaret Court’s record of 24 Slams.

Given her unimpressive time on the circuit in 2021, her ranking too her dropped to No.16.
