World No.3 Stefanos Tsitsipas might have scrapped his way through to the third round of the 2021 US Open. The Greek star escaped a first round exit at the hands of former champion and World No.1 Andy Murray. In the second round too, Tsitsipas had to win the match against Frenchman Adrian Mannarino is four sets.
However, much of the talk has been about Tsitsipas’ extended bathroom break, which has made headlines in New York in the first few days of the tournament. While the No.3 seed is adamant on his stand, his opponents have accused Tsitsipas for unfair play.
After making the finals of the French Open Championships, the 23-year-old suffered a shocking exit in the first round of Wimbledon at the hands of America’s Frances Tiafoe. That said, Tsitsipas is one of the top contenders to win the title in New York and will be keen to live up to his reputation during the fortnight.

On the other hand, Carlos Alcaraz comes into after beating Arthur Rinderknech in the previous round. He also overcame the challenge of inform British player Cameron Norrie in the first round. Although the Spaniard is still considered as a clay court specialist, he did manage to reach the semifinals of Winston-Salem on the hard courts, ahead of the US Open.
The 18-year-old is also into the third round of the US Open for the first time in his career and it will be interesting to see what kind of a challenge he can present to Tsitsipas in the third round.
