“It’s good for tennis” Todd Woodbridge speaks on Novak Djokovic opting to play for the 2022 ATP Cup scheduled in Sydney

Ever since World No. 1 Novak Djokovic has confirmed his name as one of the players for the Serbian team set to play at the 2022 ATP Cup, there has been a lot of speculations on whether the player is eventually getting vaccinated or not as the tournament is set to be played in Sydney from the 1st of January.
Despite Novak’s father Srdjan commenting and accusing the Australian Open organisers of blackmailing the player into revealing his vaccination status in order to come and play at the Grand Slam where he is a 9-time champion and a 3-time defending champion.
Now however with his decision to play for Serbia at the ATP Cup where he led his nation to a title in the inaugural tournament in 2020, Novak might be actually getting vaccinated and then also feature during the Australian summer which will definitely be massive news for his fans who love one of their most decorated champions immensely.
Speaking on Novak’s decision, 16-time doubles Grand Slam champion Todd Woodbridge was delighted to have Novak play in Australia once again. “He had the choice to register or not, so he put his name on the registration list and that means we owe it to him to come throughout the summer.
“It’s good for tennis, for the Novak fans who are going to rejoice, and I think also for the Sydney fans. He knows all the government vaccination regulations, which you might think means he’s on top unless he does something we don’t expect,” said Woodbridge as reported by welovetennis.fr.
Novak Djokovic might actually not play in the ATP Cup at all!

While Novak’s name certainly appears on the top as one of the players leading Serbia into the ATP Cup as the teams are determined by the singles ranking of their best player. With Novak ranked no. 1 in the world, he gets Serbia qualified into the tournament automatically where they will look to win their 2nd title after winning their first in 2020.
But even if he chooses to not play, it will not lead to Serbia’s disqualification and the team can compete at the tournament without their talisman actually playing at the tournament. It will still be a game of wait-and-watch before any official information comes from the Djokovic camp.
