Former World No. 1 Serena Williams has now been out of action for nearly 6 months since her unfortunate injury in the opening round of the 2021 Wimbledon Championships where she slipped on the wet Center Court and limped off in tears unable to complete a single set as well.

Williams made attempts to return during the 2021 season but the injury did not improve for match fitness for the 40-year old. While Serena at no point announced that her season had ended, her withdrawal from tournaments eventually hinted that she will not be in action anymore in 2021 as her ranking kept deteriorating.

While she continues to train and return to match fitness, the 23-time Grand Slam champion has her whole time dedicated to her 4-year old daughter Olympia who is becoming as famous as her parents Williams and father Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of Reddit. Olympia has an Instagram account for herself where she has 632,000 followers already.

Much to the expectation of Serena’s fans, Olympia has also picked up the racquet and trains with her mother occasionally. Serena has always said that her daughter prefers playing the piano instead of sweating it out on the court. However, in an interview earlier with People, Serena told that because of Covid, Olympia and she started training as everything was closed so the mother-daughter duo picked up their racquets.

In one such post on Olympia’s Instagram handle, the 4-year old can be seen practising the ‘double-handed backhand’ and the video has received great praise from the tennis fraternity comparing the baby steps into her mother and aunt Venus Williams‘ legacy. Venus commented ‘It’s Oracene all over again!’ pointing to their mother Oracene Price who also coached them along with their father Richard Williams.

Serena was expected to return to Melbourne Park this year after a long time away from tennis action but the 7-time champion had to withdraw her name as her medical team advised her not to force a return as she was not completely fit and did not wish to risk the whole season for the Slam.

Given she reached the semi-finals at the major in 2021 and her absence this year, her ranking is set to take a massive hit and one can expect the superstar to be ranked somewhere between World No. 240 to World No. 250 when the rankings are updated after the Grand Slam concludes on 30th January.
