Nick Kyrgios and Vernon Maxwell

Nick Kyrgios is someone who just loves grabbing the headlines and staying in the news. After his antics at the Miami Open, the Australian has started off really well with a first-round win at the Houston Claycourt championship. Kyrgios won the match against Mackenzie McDonald in three sets as the American gave a tough fight before bowing out. Kyrgios won that match 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 to progress to the next round.

Apart from the game being an intensely fought clash between two decent players, it stood out more because of Nick Kyrgios‘ outrageous tweener. The Australian often comes up with these unorthodox shots starting from a surprise underarm serve to a sudden tweener. Here again, he surprised his opponent with the tweener who failed to judge the ball trajectory and came up with a horrible unforced error.

Despite all his controversies and antics on the court and also on social media, the 26-year-old is an absolute crowd puller. He is a proper entertainer and the crowd simply enjoys the trick shots that he comes up with every now and then and more often than not they are really very effective for Kyrgios.

Nick Kyrgios has beaten McDonald and will now progress to the next round and face yet another American in Tommy Paul. After consistent performances at the Indian Wells and Miami where he reached the quarterfinals and round of 16 respectively, Kyrgios will be aiming to go a few steps better in Houston. He was defeated by Rafael Nadal at the Indian Wells and lost out against Jannik Sinner in Miami. Some people really believe that the 26-year-old has to be a contender for the ATP Houston title this year if he keeps playing like this.
