Mirra Andreeva is on a rampage. The 16-year-old teen is quickly becoming the talk of the town and many have already labeled her as the next big thing in women’s tennis. The Russian, who made her WTA main draw debut only last year, is taking giant strides at the moment. Her coming from the qualifiers and making it to the main draw and still going strong at Roland Garros has been one of the stories of 2023 in tennis.
The 2023 Junior Australian Open finalist, Andreeva in just over six months of main draw debut, has made it to the Round of 16 of a WTA 1000 tournament and has also reached the third round of the 2023 French Open.
She is ranked World No.143 at the moment, an incredible achievement considering her career has just begun at the senior level. With the player gaining popularity every day, let us find out who is behind this such a success story. Let’s see who coaches Mirra Andreeva.
Andreeva is currently being coached by Jean-Rene Lisnard, a Monegasque retired professional tennis player who once represented France. Lisnard is the only tennis player from Monaco to win a main draw match at a Grand Slam. He has been a member of the Monaco Davis Cup team since 2007.
Lisnard became professional in 1997, the same year when he made it to the final of the Junior US Open in men’s doubles representing France. The man from Monaco achieved a career-best singles ranking of 84 in 2003. His best performance in a Major came at the 2005 Australian Open, where he made it to the third round of the tournament. Though his tennis career may not have gone the way he wanted, his protegee Andreeva is surely looking to have a great future ahead of her. It would be interesting to see if she is able to fulfill her coach’s dream or not.
