Serena Williams vs Elena Rybakina: Preview
After exiting the semis of the Australian Open earlier in the year, the American only returned to the court during the clay court swing in Rome. As expected, the 23-time Grand Slam winner struggled to find her feet on the dirt, leading to premature first and second round exits in Rome and Parma respectively. However, Serena is perhaps the greatest of all time and knows how to win matches at the Majors.
In her first three rounds, she has only dropped one set and has once again indicated to the women in the locker room that she is eyeing the title in Paris for the fourth time. It’s also to be noted that she is the only player in the WTA roster to have won the French Open on three separate occasions. The clinical manner in which she took out a dogged Danielle Collins in the previous round is perhaps a sign of things to come. It’s tough to see Serena not making another deep run in Paris.
On the other hand, Rybakina too has impressed at this year’s Roland Garros despite struggling throughout the clay season. She is yet to drop a set in this tournament thus far. The 21-year-old Kazak player blasted 12 aces and 26 winners in her victory, outgunning Vesnina in the previous round. This is her best performance ever at the French Open and although she will have a daunting challenge of facing Serena, one expects Rybakina to put up a fight in the fourth round.
Serena Williams vs Elena Rybakina: Head to Head
These two have never met on the WTA tour before.
Serena Williams vs Elena Rybakina: Prediction
Both women served very well in the previous round. However, Rybakina only served two double faults as compared to Serena’s five. How well they serve and handle the crucial points better should dictate the flow of this contest. Both players have looked in good control of their game in this tournament and that will make this contest an interesting one. A three-setter is a high probability in this match. That said, one cannot bet against the 23-time Grand Slam winner. She should make quarterfinals in Paris once again.
Match Prediction: Serena Williams should win in three sets.
