Alexander Zverev will make his 6th appearance at the ATP Halle Open this year. The German who’s chasing his first title there came close on 2 occasions in 2016 and 2017 but had to settle for the runners-up trophy. He will be back on Grass for the first time since the 2019 Wimbledon.
Zverev comes from a heart breaking defeat in the semi-finals of the French Open 2021 after losing to Stefanos Tsitsipas in a thrilling 5-setter where the German was 2-sets down going into the third and made a strong comeback in the 3rd and 4th set. He however failed to win the match and lost the chance to enter his 2nd Grand Slam final.
Dominik Koepfer will be making his debut at the Halle Open this year. Unlike Zverev, he comes into the tournament after having made his Grass debut for the season at the 2021 Stuttgart Open where he lost to surprise semi-finalist, Jurji Rodionov who entered the Stuttgart Open through a wildcard.
Koepfer also played at the French Open 2021 where he lost in a thrilling 3rd round clash with Roger Federer after which the Swiss Maestro decided to withdraw from the tournament before the 4th round to maintain his fitness for the Grass season.

This will be their 2nd meeting on the tour. They met for the first time this year at the 2021 Acapulco Open in Mexico where the Alexander was the eventual winner. Alexander Zverev leads the head-to-head 1-0.

Zverev will come into the match with a 24-14 career record on Grass, while Koepfer comes in with a 17-10 record for himself. As for the season, Koepfer is 13-13 while Zverev has a much better record of 23-9.
Zverev will like to continue his lead over Koepfer in their head-to-head and also some good victories after narrowly losing out in the semi-finals of the French Open 2021.
