The New Day have called it a day on their WWE careers in a mutual parting of ways with the company, as collectively reported by Fightful and BodySlam on Saturday. The latter revealed that the legendary tag team had re-signed with WWE last year, with both Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods putting pen to paper in the seven-figure range.
In a substantial follow-up to it, Bryan Alvarez of the Wrestling Observer stated that the New Day members were asked to restructure to TKO deals, and they didn’t like what was being offered to them. Kingston and Woods subsequently asked for their release from the company, which they were granted.
Bryan Alvarez has confirmed that Kingston and Woods decided to leave WWE after being asked to restructure their deals:

BodySlam was told by multiple talents across the wrestling industry that they were shocked to learn about Kingston and Woods leaving WWE, as they thought they’d retire there only. Numerous promotions are expected to pursue signing these two once it’s legally feasible. Fightful has confirmed that there’s a 90-day waiting period tied to the New Day’s release.

Fightful also noted that major AEW names were already pushing for Kingston and Woods to be signed with them. MJF posted an Instagram Story for the New Day along the lines of it indeed being a new day. The Usos, one of the New Day’s greatest rivals in WWE, also posted about them on social media. Damian Priest posted on X that the entire locker room was hurt by New Day’s departure.

It cannot be overstated how universally loved those men were among their peers. Kofi Kingston ended up staying 20 years in WWE while Xavier Woods had a tenure of 16 years. They had their ups and downs as a duo after Big E‘s career-ending neck injury. Kingston and Woods had a great heel turn in late 2024 but no real follow up to it faded their heat and the fans couldn’t care less.

WWE gets rid of two MFT members amid The New Day’s shocker
Apart from the shocker of Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods departing WWE, a couple of more names were moved to the alumni section of the company’s official website on Saturday. They were none other than JC Mateo and Tonga Loa. Both were involved in a beatdown angle on SmackDown two weeks ago at the hands of Jacob Fatu.

That being said, the My Family Tree stable of Solo Sikoa has taken a hit due to it. It’s now left with Talla Tonga and Tama Tonga, who’s on the verge of falling out with Sikoa. WWE had already cut over 20 stars within a week after WrestleMania. Some of them included Kairi Sane, Zelina Vega, Aleister Black, the entire Wyatt Sicks faction members, and more.

While the fans felt sorry for almost every name that was axed, they expressed their deepest dissatisfaction with the company letting Kairi Sane go amidst her ongoing storyline with Iyo Sky and Asuka. These women are finally set to battle it out at Backlash in a match that was initially supposed to happen at WrestleMania.
Speaking of who to blame for the latest wave of WWE releases, they were primarily decided upon by Chief Content Officer Triple H and company president Nick Khan with inputs from the talent relations department. ‘The Game’ was also behind last year’s mass releases. However, it couldn’t be clarified if he was asked to release a certain amount of names or if it actually happened at his own discretion.
Triple H and Nick Khan along with talent relations were reportedly the primary decision makers for the WWE releases last week.

The latest case of the New Day has taken a major hit in an already limited tag team division across the board in WWE. Although the fans claim that tag team wrestling has been on life support in WWE for quite a while now, The New Day upheld that tradition to the best of their abilities until they were there.
