In Short
  • CM Punk was involved in two physical altercations with fans after WrestleMania 42, including smashing a phone and shoving a fan.
  • The incidents occurred in the lobby of the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas during the early hours following the event.
  • WWE talent expressed dissatisfaction with the lack of security during WrestleMania weekend, leading to multiple confrontations with unruly fans.

It was previously reported that CM Punk smashed a phone out of a fan’s hand who kept recording his close friend Bayley and his wife AJ Lee‘s personal space. The incident happened early Monday morning after WrestleMania in the lobby of the MGM Grand Hotel in Las Vegas. The fan later told TMZ that he wouldn’t sue Punk, but wanted the WWE icon to apologize to his face.

The dust on it was yet to be settled, and there’s now another similar instance to dig into. As per a 911 audio recording obtained by TMZ, the caller was allegedly shoved in the chest by the ‘Best in the World’ when the said fan tried getting an autograph from him.

Punk allegedly pushed the fan waiting in the lobby of the hotel when he tried getting closer to him. It was also noted that the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department did respond to the disturbance in the hotel, but no case was filed against the WWE wrestler. A misinformed observer of this incident might assume how ill-tempered it was of Punk to put his hands on a fan. But context is pretty important here.

It must’ve been 2 or 3 in the morning, and wrestlers were all banged up, especially CM Punk, who was involved in an epic main event match with Roman Reigns on Sunday night. The recurring theme of some fans invading the personal lives of WWE stars during the Mania weekend really set Punk off. He got rightfully upset at the first fan recording Bayley and AJ Lee‘s emotional embrace on his phone camera.

‘The Second City Saint’ is pretty vocal about expecting fans to respect the social boundaries of these wrestlers. While there are a few cases of WWE talent getting swarmed and mobbed around major touring sites in recent years, the situation in Vegas was progressively worse. Fightful noted that several WWE stars expressed their unhappiness over the lack of security for them over the WrestleMania weekend.

WrestleMania 42 weekend saw many cases of no fan decency apart from the CM Punk situation

Not only CM Punk, a ton of other stars had to endure unruly fans at various points that weekend in Vegas. WWE legend X-Pac noted on social media that he got physically assaulted and a camera shoved in his face by similar fans that Punk dealt with in the MGM Grand hotel.

He was even stalked in the bathroom. In yet another account from AJ Styles, he revealed on his podcast that a fan swarmed him like bees after being told to respect his privacy at a time when Styles was trying to get in his hotel room with his family.

Moreover, there was another similar incident right before to the one where CM Punk slapped the phone out of the fan’s hand, as mentioned in the beginning. An onlooker informed PWInsider that Damian Priest had to step in and escort a female WWE star away from a group of fans surrounding her for photos and autographs.

The hotel was ideally supposed to be the haven for wrestlers, and fans should’ve had no business intruding when WWE held several meets and greets, where these wrestlers stayed back for hours and didn’t leave until they gleefully met everyone that paid to see them.

It’s evident that a ton of talent and even several old-timers who were in town for WrestleMania were harassed by several antisocial elements, a couple of whom even bore the brunt of CM Punk. WWE must heighten security from now on to prevent more such wrestler-fan altercations in the future, as someone like Punk wouldn’t put up with that behavior.
