Long ahead of the 2024 NFL regular season, the Tennessee Titans have given its first-year head coach Brian Callahan with someone he has great tuning: Tyler Boyd. Callahan previously served as the offensive coordinator at the Cincinnati Bengals, where he coached the wide receiver.
A source close to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared that Boyd has signed a one-year deal with the Titans worth $4.5 million. With this, the former Bengals WR will be joining the strong receiving squad of DeAndre Hopkins, Calvin Ridley, and Treylon Burks.
Boyd’s departure from the Bengals happened on a very tough note for him, following a season filled with challenges and unusual mistakes during important plays by him. Apart from that, in the eight years that the wideout spent at the Bengals, he proved himself as a consistent pass catcher by logging 513 catches on 753 targets for 6,000 receiving yards along with 31 touchdowns.
Given that the Bengals already have a big extension up in the line for star players such as WRs Tee Higgins, and Ja’Marr Chase and the start of Joe Burrow’s huge contract, which made him the highest-paid quarterback in the league. Therefore, releasing Boyd into free agency was considered a way out for the franchise, especially since he posted one of the most bizarre seasons in 2023.
Football fan reacts to Tyler Boyd’s contract with the Titans
Even though Boyd is coming off a poor year, the Titans fans are happy with his addition to the roster, as one season doesn’t define his contribution to the team’s offense. They believe he and wide receiver Hopkins can build a dynamic and unstoppable pair.
One fan wrote, “Who’s stopping this Tennessee Titans Offense?” while another wrote, “That’s a solid WR group for Will. None too crazy, just solid.” Here are some of the fan reactions:
Fans didn’t get tired of pointing out how solid the Titans’ offense looks now, with Boyd’s addition and giving quarterback Will Levis many reliable pass catchers on the field. With this new deal, Boyd has received another opportunity to compensate for his poor season of 2023.
