The 21-year-old Uta Abe of Japan brings home another gold medal for the Japanese Judo Team

The two-times world champion in women’s -52 Kg Judo, Uta Abe achieved her lifelong dream of becoming the Olympic Champion along with her brother Hifumi Abe at Tokyo Olympics 2020, the siblings became the first due ever to achieve this feat. The Abe family couldn’t be more proud of their children and they will have a night to remember.
The number three ranked athlete in her weight class displayed impressive progress in this season, she was in form and after a series of sensational performances, she was expected to bring home the gold medal. Becoming the Olympic champion at such a young age is unbelievable and she fought through every adversity to claim her spot.
At the elimination round of 16, Uta defeated Pimenta Larissa of Brazil with two Waza-aris (which is equal to an Ippon) to advance to the next round. In the semi-finals, she faced Chelsie Giles of Great Britain and secured a Waza-ari with a sneaky Sumi-Otoshi just in time to secure the victory. She faced Odette Giuffrida of Italy and after 7 hard-fought minutes, she managed to score a Waza-ari during the Golden Score to move into the finals. In the finals, Abe faced Amandine Buchard of Italy and avenged her loss with an Ippon by holding her down during the Golden Score.
As soon as she realized that she has done it, the celebration started and she burst into tears, it was a sight to behold.

Amandine was the only athlete to hold a victory over Abe, she fought her way into the finals but came up short against her rival this time around. She defeated GEOLEVYTSKA-SHUKVANI Tetiana of Georgia in the elimination round of 16, and then KORPARK Da-Sol of Korea to advance to the semi-finals, then she went on to face SUIKOCHER Fabienne of Switzerland and defeated her with an Ippon to get into the finals, she lost the final against Uta Abe and secured the silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics 2020.
Giles Chelsie and Guiffrida Odette secured the bronze medals at Tokyo Olympics 2020
Giles won the 2 eliminators but lost the quarter-finals against the gold medalist Uta Abe. She then had to fight the repechage fights to earn herself a bronze medal. She defeated Fabienne Kocher of Switzerland in the bronze medal bout with an impressive ippon to get the bronze medal for her country.
Guiffrida Odette of Italy lost the semi-final bout against the champion Uta Abe, she faced Rekka Pupp of Hungry in the bronze medal bout and defeated her with a perfect Ippon to earn herself a bronze medal.
