Byjus, CSK announce reward for Neeraj Chopra following his historic gold medal at Tokyo Olympics

India’s star athlete Neeraj Chopra has scripted history at the Tokyo Olympics. With a gold medal to his name, it is a record galore for Neeraj Chopra at his maiden Olympic campaign. Chopra produced a stunning 87.58m throw in his second attempt to secure a pole position.
Following Neeraj’s emphatic performance, leading educational start-up Byju’s announced a Rs 2 crore cash reward for the Olympic gold medallist. The leading edtech company will also offer Rs 1 crore each to Olympic medalists Mirabai Chanu, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, Lovlina Borgohain, P V Sindhu and Bajrang Punia.
“Sports has a critical role to play in nation building and it’s time that we celebrate our olympic heroes, not just once in four years, but every single day,” Byju’s founder and CEO Byju Raveendran said. “We hope that this small gesture will help them in their journey going forward to win more laurels for the country and also encourage many more youngsters to dream big.“
CSK announces cash award for Neeraj Chopra
IPL franchise Chennai Super Kings(CSK) announced a cash prize of Rs 1 crore for the ace javelin thrower. CSK will be creating a special jersey with the number 8758 as a mark of respect to Neeraj Chopra. The three-time champion IPL winning franchise shared its joy on Neeraj’s inspirational performance.
“We as Indians are proud of Neeraj Chopra as his effort at Tokyo 2020 will inspire millions of Indians to take up sport and instill belief in them to be able to compete and excel at the highest level in any discipline of the sport. His Gold medal-winning throw of 87.58m in the Men’s Javelin has galvanized the entire nation,” CSK Spokesperson said.
“We are delighted that Neeraj will join the elite company of Abhinav Bindra as only the second individual Gold Medallist in the Olympics and we look forward to celebrating more joining this list in the years to come,” CSK added.
The gold medal in javelin throw is India’s first-ever Olympic medal in a track and field event. Chopra is the second Indian after Abhinav Bindra to win an individual gold medal at the Olympic Games. Bindra achieved the feat at the 2008 Beijing Games and 13 years down the lane, a 23-year-old Neeraj joined him at the top.
