Lamar Jackson is entering the ninth season of his NFL career. Over that duration, AP has named Jackson the NFL MVP twice. Additionally, he has three All-Pro and four Pro Bowl selections to his name.
Jackson helped the Baltimore Ravens win three of the last seven AFC North titles. Unfortunately, Jackson can’t seem to have the same impact in the postseason. The best the Ravens have mustered with Jackson as their QB1 was an appearance in the 2023 AFC Championship Game. Baltimore lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
Last year, the Ravens not only failed to qualify for the playoffs but also conceded divisional dominance to the Pittsburgh Steelers on the final day. But a new season brings renewed optimism, and former NFL wide receiver Greg Jennings believes Lamar Jackson will deliver a championship.
On the latest episode of Fox Sports’ First Things First, Jennings was asked to pick the next Super Bowl winner between Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, and Josh Allen. Jennings said Allen is the best quarterback in the NFL right now. However, the former Packers and Vikings wideout picked Jackson to win a ring before the other two. And Jennings believes the Ravens are in an ideal position to win the championship this year compared to the Bills and the Bengals for one crucial reason—Jesse Minter.
Minter coached the Ravens’ defensive backs during Jackson’s early days with the club. He had a spell with Jim Harbaugh at Michigan before following him to the Los Angeles Chargers, where he was appointed the defensive coordinator. The Chargers defense earned praise from all corners during Minter’s time, and when the Ravens removed John Harbaugh as head coach, they quickly poached Minter.
The Ravens have always had a dominating defense. But Minter’s Chargers outperformed the Ravens the last couple of years. Jennings believes Minter’s expertise in building a tough defense will take pressure from Lamar Jackson and allow him to do his job. Jennings said on First Things First:
He has something now that I don’t think the other two have which is a head coach that has an emphasis on defense. And the talent on defense is already there, set and really good and what Jesse Minter’s track record shows me and will show us, that he did it in LA… in terms of turning that defense around, and when you look at the talent that’s on this Baltimore Ravens defense, he’s gonna have this defense ringing right off [the bat]… Jesse Minter is going to be a difference maker.

According to Fox Sports data, the Chargers defense jumped from 23rd to the 3rd best in points per game (allowed) after Minter took over as DC. Derwin James, Khalil Mack, Daiyan Henley, and Denzel Perryman are among the best in the business.
But Baltimore also boasts some outstanding talent on their roster. Baltimore has veterans Roquan Smith and Nnamdi Madubuike—brought back club legend Calais Campbell and signed sack machine Trey Hendrickson in the offseason. Baltimore has arguably the best DB duo in the division, Marlon Humphrey and Nate Wiggins, while Kyle Hamilton is among the premier safeties.
Lamar Jackson’s protector picks up an injury at joint practice
The Ravens parted ways with star center Tyler Linderbaum in the offseason. Linderbaum joined the Las Vegas Raiders. Baltimore replaced him with former Indianapolis Colts fifth-round draft pick Danny Pinter.

Pinter has been taking first-team reps at the camp. On Wednesday, the Ravens held a joint practice session with the Minnesota Vikings, whom they play in their second preseason game. Unfortunately, Danny Pinter’s availability is now doubtful after he suffered an injury
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported that Pinter left the practice in a cart. The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec tweeted that the medical staff put a brace around Pinter’s leg before taking him for an additional check-up.

Pinter wasn’t the only casualty of the day. The Chargers veteran Tyler Biadasz hurt his ACL and could miss the season depending on the severity of the injury.
