Toto Wolff has admitted that Mercedes is facing deficits everywhere after their showing in the first two races of the season compared to Red Bull and Ferrari.

The Mercedes team has not had the best of starts in 2022 and while the Brackley-based team was able to finish 3rd and 4th in Bahrain, everyone knew that they “lucked out” after the two Red Bulls were not able to finish the race.

The Mercedes team was brought back to earth in Saudi Arabia where Lewis Hamilton finished a disappointing tenth and his teammate George Russell was only able to manage fifth.

Toto has described Ferrari and Red Bull in a “league of their own” and while talking about the W13 has said, “I think we are not running the car where we wanted to run it.”

Therefore it is very difficult to really assess what the lap time deficit is if we were able to run the car lower.”

I would very much hope that the gap is much closer to what we have seen but there are deficits everywhere.”

Formula One has not been able to arrange for a race in Australia since 2019 and it was mainly because of the covid pandemic that turned the whole world “upside down.”

Toto while talking about the prospect of racing in Australia has said, “It’s really important to Formula 1 because F1 has a great fanbase there and it has been always part of the circus.”

So coming back there is something that everybody is always looking forward to.”

Less some at the moment but if I take my Mercedes hat off, it is a great place and we love to be in Australia.”

Toto on one hand is very much looking forward to racing in Australia during the third round of the 2022 Formula One season and on the other hand, would be hoping that his team would be able to close the gap to the front runners and show everyone that the reigning constructor’s champions are not yet out of the title fight.
