UFC’s biggest superstar Conor McGregor has lived up to his name “The Notorious One” on several occasions. McGregor has managed to be on the wrong side of the law time and time again. In recent times, the number of times McGregor has made the headlines for doing something violent outside the octagon is countless.
Conor McGregor is undoubtedly one of the biggest athletes in the world. The fighter has come from rags to riches. Despite having it all, the ego of Conor has gotten the better of him on various occasions. Here are times the Irishman lost control and made a scene in public by being violent outside the octagon.
1. Conor McGregor punches an old man in Dublin
In the year 2019, a video of McGregor punching an old man in his hometown, Dublin, Ireland went viral. The incident took place at The Marble Arch Pub. In the video, Conor is seen forcing an old gentleman in the pub to drink whiskey as the man resists. A few moments later, Conor throws a punch and catches the old man in the head. McGregor was later dragged off the bar and arrested and was made to appear in court and pay a fine of 1000 euros.
2. Conor McGregor has a scuffle with rapper Machine Gun Kelly
Conor recently was invited to the 2021 MTV Video Music Awards. The Irishman was invited to present an award but things went south on the red carpet where he and rapper Machine Gun Kelly got into a scuffle. This incident happened at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York on September 12. McGregor was talking to MGK and later threw a punch which fortunately did not land on the rapper. Both the celebrities were split up. MGK alleges that Conor punched him because the rapper refused to take a picture while McGregor claims it was MGK who pushed him which led to the chaos.
3. Conor McGregor throws a dolly on bus
This incident will forever go down as one of the biggest promotions to a super fight. The legendary Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Conor McGregor fight started here. On April 5th, 2018, Conor and a few goons that flew from Ireland snuck into the Barclays Center ahead of UFC 223 where several fighters like Khabib Nurmagomedov, Rose Namjunas Al Iaquinta, Michael Chiesa, and others were traveling in the bus. Conor tried to provoke Khabib to get off the bus and later picked up a dolly and threw it on the bus’s window which shattered and even cut Chiesa.
Conor and his goons fled the scene and later Conor was charged with assault and criminal offense. The fighter was arrested and bail was set for $50,000. The motive behind all this was Khabib and Russian fighter Artem Lobov’s dispute.
4. Conor McGregor creates a scene at Bellator 187
McGregor was in attendance at Bellator 187 where one of his teammates Charlie Ward made his MMA debut. The fighter was facing John Redmond and Ward knocked his opponent out. Before the referee could declare the stoppage, Conor jumped into the octagon and started celebrating. The fighter was held back followed by the referee declaring the fight. McGregor went absolutely berserk and assaulted the referee Marc Goddard, the fighter who was knocked out, John Redmond. When stopped by the commissioner, McGregor slapped him and ended the fight there.
5. Conor McGregor punches Italian DJ
McGregor has been spending a lot of time traveling around the world and recently was in Italy. The fighter was accused of assaulting Italian DJ, Francesco Facchinetti in the face and breaking his nose. The DJ posted on social media and said he still doesn’t know why Conor punched him. The Irishman was accused of breaking the musician’s nose. Several MMA analysts and fighters critiqued McGregor’s behavior and claimed he was bringing a bad name to the sport of MMA.
