Amanda Nunes confirms her title defense against Julianna Pena will be her last outing at 135lbs
Amanda Nunes
Amanda Nunes is non-arguable the best female fighter to ever walk this planet. She is the only double champ in the history of the UFC who has defended both her titles. Her recent title defense is coming up against Julianna Pena at the co-main event of UFC 269, and she has some important news for her fans all around the world.
Nunes is on a 12 fight winning streak, and nobody in the entire history of UFC has been as dominant as her. She moved up and down a division, to defend both her belts, but it looks like it is getting hard for her to manage the weight cuts. Nunes is now a mother, and she draws inspiration from her daughter to perform even better, her last title defense against Megan Anderson was the first title she brought her daughter in the fight week, and it’s safe to say that she looked as dominant as ever.
Marc Raimondi recently revealed that Nunes might vacate her women’s bantamweight title after UFC 269 because it is getting very difficult for her to make it down to 135 pounds, he wrote, “Amanda Nunes says she’s already almost at 135 pounds. In her last bantamweight defense, Nunes said she cried with her wife Nina because it was very difficult and she vowed then it would be the last time she cried during a weight cut.”
Chael Sonnen warns Amanda Nunes to not underestimate Julianna Pena ahead of their fight at UFC 269
Julianna Pena isn’t afraid of Nunes, and she believes her confidence would get her the win against “The Lioness.” Many people believe it would be Amanda’s toughest test, and Chael Sonnen warned her to not underestimate Pena, in his recent YouTube video, he said, “Nunes is getting ready for the most likely upset of her entire career and I feel like you guys are not seeing it. I’m not predicting for you that Pena is going to beat Amanda Nunes, I am submitting for you that Pena is the most likely opponent of anyone Nunes has faced to get the jump on her. This is a stylistic disaster for Amanda.”
He also stated, “To get a win over Amanda, if you make it five rounds, you have won. A moral victory, but you have done something that no one else could and nobody thought you were going to do. If you lose this thing [fight] 4-1, they will put you on SportsCenter. If it goes 3-2, they are going to talk about re-matching you. So, there’s a lot of victories aside from taking the belt off her waist. That’s how well respected Amanda is and I’m telling you right now that Pena is the biggest threat that Amanda has ever had.”
