“These people have elevated the sport” – Aspen Ladd compares Conor McGregor to Ronda Rousey
Conor McGregor, Aspen Ladd and Ronda Rousey
Conor McGregor suffered a devastating loss at UFC 264 to Dustin Poirier. It was the first time that the Irishman suffered back-to-back losses in his MMA career. An unfortunate ankle break was the reason for his loss this time around. McGregor had his ankle snapped towards the very end of the first round, resulting in the fight being awarded to Poirier due to a doctor stoppage.
UFC Women’s bantamweight Aspen Ladd recently showed her support for Conor McGregor, who otherwise has been receiving immense flak from the MMA community, especially because of the way he handled himself at the post-fight interview following his loss to Poirier. Ladd compared McGregor to UFC women’s legend Ronda Rousey, explaining how both the fighters have elevated the sport.
‘I think that the only thing that I saw that he handled incorrectly was his post-fight interview’ – Aspen Ladd on Conor McGregor
Ladd told Morning Kombat, “I think that the only thing that I saw that he handled incorrectly was his post-fight interview. But, he was in pain. Like, everybody’s basically crapping all over him, but he’d just broken his leg, he’d just lost a fight. He is not in a good mental place. And anybody hating on him really shouldn’t be. He’s done so much for the sport.” [via Bloody Elbow]
She continued, “It’s kinda like, I got that same question as far as—not the same, but: ‘Ronda Rousey, what’s your take on her?’ Everybody should be grateful. Sure, you might want to fight that person. You might want to do that, but these people have elevated the sport. I see nothing but, ‘Great, you did a great job. You helped all of us.’” [via Bloody Elbow]
Aspen Ladd calls out Miesha Tate after her fight against Macy Chiasson is cancelled
Aspen Ladd was set to face Macy Chiasson in the main card of UFC Vegas 32. However, Chiasson pulled out of the fight due to an injury just 2 days before the fight. As a result, Ladd was withdrawn from the card too.
A gutted Ladd, then called out UFC returnee and former women’s bantamweight champion Miesha Tate following Chiasson pulling out of the fight. She wrote, “@macychiasson has pulled out on weigh in Eve. This absolutely blows. Who wants to see me fight @mieshatate ? @bokamotoespn @mmajunkiedotcom @theschmo312 @lynchonsports @kbheat @espn @ufc @ufcnewsalerts @mickmaynard2 @danawhite.”
