‘He’s probably going to get the next title shot’ – UFC President Dana White reveals what’s in store for Conor McGregor in the future
Conor McGregor, Dana White and Dustin Poirier
Conor McGregor has probably one of the most important matches of his career coming up. The Irishman will be taking on Dustin Poirier in the main event of UFC 264 on the 10th of July. With the winner expected to fight Charles Oliveira for the lightweight title, settling the scores in the rivalry will also be at stake, come this weekend.
Elsewhere, UFC President Dana White explained in an interview with John Morgan of MMA Junkie about what the future “holds” for Conor McGregor. The boss said how McGregor still wants to fight despite having a truckload of money before going on to reveal that he might get the title shot if he beats Poirier.
‘When he fights, he makes a sh*tload of money‘ – Dana White on Conor McGregor
White was quoted as saying, “Listen, Conor McGregor is a competitor…The guy has a ton of money. He doesn’t need to fight anymore. He wants to fight. He’s a fighter to the core. What’s at stake is, yes, he wants to be back on top. He goes in there and beats the No. 1 guy in the world, he’s probably going to get the next title shot. The other thing Conor McGregor likes probably more than competition is money. When he fights, he makes a sh*tload of money. These are all still very important things to him at this point in his life.”
McGregor and Poirier are coming off their rematch at UFC 257. Poirier knocked out McGregor in the second round with a flurry of punches to exact revenge for his loss almost 7 years ago at UFC 178. It is McGregor who is currently having his back against the wall. He desperately needs a win at all costs.
And McGregor has been pretty vocal this time around. He has been playing several mind games with Poirier, recently even bringing up his wife into their rivalry. Fingers crossed for the 10th of July!
