Conor McGregor might actually return to the welterweight division in his comeback fight.

“The Notorious One” recently posted on Instagram hinting that he give the 170lb pound division another shot. Conor McGregor has fought in the welterweight division thrice in his career. He has a record of 2-1 with wins over Nate Diaz and Donald Cerrone. His first ever fight in this weight class was against Nate Diaz at UFC 196. The superstar did not have the debut he would have liked as he lost via a devastating submission in the second round.

“170lb weight division is nice for me. Look at the fullness here on the scale in 2020. I Wonder what 180lbs would look like for me in this day and age jacked to the teeth 2021. Match my years take. $180m. Twelve months. Number 1, 2021,” McGregor wrote.

Who could Conor McGregor fight in the welterweight division?

Conor McGregor Nate Diaz
Conor McGregor and Nate Diaz

Right off the bat, the only right answer is Nate Diaz. Conor is recently coming off a trilogy fight and all the stars point towards another trilogy for the Irishman. Conor and Nate have met each other twice in the octagon. Both the fights are in the Top 10 PPV fights of the UFC. Making this fight happen would only mean a win-win for both the fans and the promotion.

Conor and Nate are tied up at 1-1 each after McGregor avenged his loss against Diaz at UFC 202. The Irishman and the Stockton Slugger put on a Dog Fight on August 21, 2016. Given McGregor’s bad run in his last few fights, it is only right to go for another top 10 fight which could see the Irishman do what he’s best at, putting on a show for his fans. What do you think should be Conor’s next fight?
