UFC president Dana White claimed that “The Black Beast” Derrick Lewis will be next in line to face the newly crowned heavyweight champion “The Predator” Francis Ngannou in his first title defense, but the contract for this fight is still not signed.
Initially, Jones was promised an immediate title shot against Ngannou but UFC and Jones couldn’t come to an agreement for this fight due to dispute over money, and Dana White made it clear that they aren’t planning to wait around for Jones, but Lewis believes Ngannou still wants to face Jones first.
Lewis believes Ngannou is ignoring him, but that isn’t frustrating for him at all, in an interview with MMA Junkie, he said, “It’s not really official yet. But I don’t know. He seems like he still wanna keep going back and forth with Jones. He’s just really trying to ignore me. That’s what it seems like.”
“I’ll fight Jon Jones. It doesn’t matter,” Derrick Lewis doesn’t care who he faces next
Lewis made it clear that he isn’t interested in chasing the title, he said he just wants to earn some good money for as long as he can keep fighting, and if it comes along with the title then it’s all good.
He appeared on the media scrum at UFC 262, where he talked about this, he said he’s ready to face anyone UFC puts him against.
“It’s really not frustrating at all. I don’t care,” Lewis said. “I want him to take all the time he can. He wanna show his belt around for his country, that’s fine. So I’m here whenever he ready. But if not, that’s fine, too. If he wanna fight Jones, he can fight Jones; I’ll fight Stipe. Or if they want me to fight Jones, I’ll fight Jones. It doesn’t matter.”
