The UFC Featherweight fighter, Edson Barboza secured a third-round TKO victory against one of the rising prospects of the division, Shane Burgos at UFC 262. This is Barboza’s second consecutive victory since he changed the division from Lightweight to Featherweight.
Edson Barboza has been a part of UFC for almost a decade and during his lightweight run, he fought against many of the biggest names in the division such as Khabib Nurmagomedov, Tony Ferguson, Justin Gaethje, and many others.
Now, with his latest win, he secured number 9th ranking in the Featherweight division and he wants to face some of the biggest names in the division as he did in Lightweight.
In his latest interview with MMA Junkie, Barboza says, “You can see the top five guys: Calvin Kattar, Yair Rodriguez, Zabit Magomedsharipov, ‘Korean Zombie’, Max Holloway,”
“That’s a main event. That’s a pay-per-view fight, for sure. UFC always gives me a chance to fight the best guys at 155. I hope they give me the chance to fight the best guys at 145.” {H/T MMA Junkie}
Max Holloway fight feels very fascinating for Edson Barboza
Out of all the names Edson Barboza put out, Korean Zombie is booked to face Dan Ige for his next fight. But Barboza isn’t that picky, he’ll fight anyone in the division, only one fight that arouses his curiosity is against the former Featherweight champion, Max Holloway.
Barboza added, “Make a fight me and Holloway, five rounds, that would be crazy, That would be one where 100 percent people would love this fight. Me against Kattar, me against Rodriguez.”
“I really believe I really deserve a top-five guy because my last two fights – I beat Ige, who was a top 10. Now I beat Burgos, he’s a top 10. I believe all my history with my performances, I really deserve a top-five next.”
After securing a soaring win against Shane Burgos, Barboza eyes to fight again in August. He concluded, “I think I saw a card on Aug. 27 or something like that, That’s going to be perfect. Rest this week, back to training next week. End of August going to be perfect to get back to fight.” {H/T MMA Junkie}
