“He’s a little bit weak”- TJ Dillashaw finds it hard to consider Aljamain Sterling as a “real fighter”
TJ Dillashaw on Aljamain-Sterling
TJ Dillashaw breaks down Aljamain Sterling vs Petr Yan! The undisputed bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling is going to take on the interim champ, Petr Yan in a title rematch at UFC 273. The first fight between them ended rather tragically when the Yan threw an illegal knee at Sterling, and Sterling was crowned as the new champ.
These two were supposed to fight at UFC 267, but Sterling pulled out from the fight due to lingering neck issues, now they are booked for April, and they can’t wait to get their hands on each other. Former bantamweight champion, TJ Dillashaw also earned himself a title shot after beating Cory Sandhagen upon his return, but he was forced out from the action following a serious knee injury.
TJ had to undergo surgery, and he dropped his prediction on the title unification fight in his recent interview with ESPN, he said, “My money’s on Yan, just to see the way that fight went down and kind of see Aljamain just break and give up and really didn’t have much for him. I was kind of expecting Sterling to give him a lot more trouble in the grappling aspects and the takedown, and Yan just kind of shrugged him off like he had no strength. I don’t know if there’s much you can change with that, that mentality. and Yan’s a killer.”
“He doesn’t have that fighting spirit in him“- TJ Dillashaw makes a bold claim about Aljamain Sterling
Dillashaw believes Yan is a stone-cold killer, while Sterling is just a competitor or an athlete who’s just trying to fight. TJ also draws a comparison between Yan and himself, he claims they are the type of guys who are just born to fight, and nothing in the world can break them
“You see the way he fights, he stays real tight, stays clean, and he’s just got the mentality that he’s a fighter. You got those competitors, you got athletes, and then you got fighters. Guys like myself and guys like Yan are the full package – you do all of them – where I feel like Sterling’s more of maybe a competitor or an athlete. He doesn’t have that fighting spirit in him. He’s a little bit weak when it comes to that,” TJ added.
