UFC is the pinnacle of MMA and it has hosted some of the most dangerous fighters to ever grace the sport. Fighters from all around the world have fought and bled for the UFC gold; it has entertained fans for over two decades. One of the most thrilling aspects of UFC is the rivalry between the fighters which often continues over multiple fights.
The trilogies are especially what really gets the attention of fight fans. Two particular fighters going against each other not once, not twice but on three multiple occasions. This gives the rivalry a whole new level as both get to show everything to their opponents. Imagine spending more than 10 rounds inside the cage with the same opponent and trying to come up with something different to beat him, it surely is the ultimate challenge for many fighters. Georges St-Pierre vs Matt Hughes
Georges St-Pierre is one of the GOATs of MMA and has fought some of the most vicious opponents throughout his career. However, his rivalry with Matt Hughes is just iconic. The pair met each other on three occasions from 2004 to 2007. In the first fight, Hughes defeated GSP via submission giving the Canadian his first loss in UFC. However, GSP finished Matt Hughes in their next two fights.
Randy Couture vs Vitor Belfort
This rivalry gave one of the most explosive trilogies fights to take place in UFC as all of them ended with TKO finishes. In 1997, the pair fought for the first time and Couture won the fight via TKO. The second time they met was in 2004, but this time, Belfort took revenge and got a first-round TKO. The trilogy fight took place in the same year seven months later and Couture took the lead by winning the bout with a third-round TKO.
Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic
Daniel Cormier made history and became a double champion by defeating Stipe Miocic in 2018. However, Miocic bounced back by winning the other two fights and claiming his superiority in the heavyweight rivalry.
Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier shared one of most grossing rivalries in the history of UFC. The pair first met in 2014, when McGregor was on the rise and won the fight via TKO. However, the other two went in the favor of the ‘Diamond’ who first took his revenge at UFC 257 with a TKO victory. The third and final fight at UFC 264 was unfortunate as McGregor broke his leg during the fight and Poirier was announced the winner.
Brandon Moreno vs Deiveson Figueiredo
In recent times, the flyweight rivalry between Brandon Moreno and Deiveson Figueiredo is undoubtedly one of the most action-packed trilogies. Their first showdown was a draw but in the second fight, Figueiredo took the lead with a submission win. However, the Mexican bounced back and defeated Figueiredo in the second fight. The trilogy was controversial, and entertaining and also got extended to a fourth fight.
Apart from these, there are various other trilogy fights that took place in UFC history which fans could never forget. Frankie Edgar vs B.J. Penn was one such fight in which Edgar had the overall domination as it went 3-0. Edgar also had another trilogy fight with Gray Maynard which ended in an equal result for both. Charles Oliveira vs Nik Lentz, in which Oliveira won twice. Tim Sylvia vs Andrei Arlovski, one of the shortest trilogy fights in which Sylvia took the lead by 2-1.
