Khabib Nurmagomedov and Khamzat Chimaev
Ever since the surge of Khamzat Chimaev, several comparisons have been drawn between him and the former lightweight champion of UFC, Khabib Nurmagomedov.
Khamzat Chimaev came into the UFC in the year 2020. The stunning Chechen fighter was an absolute phenom during his introduction to the promotion and is still putting people in awe with his performances. The fighter is nicknamed “Borz” and is undoubtedly one of the scariest fighters on the welterweight and middleweight roster.
Khamzat’s fighting style is relentless and has no brakes. The fighter has shown the world that he only comes for the kill and will absolutely “SMESH” anybody that is put in front of him inside that octagon. He has elite wrestling and top striking which makes him one of the most dangerous fighters to encounter.
His relentless, constant pressure, style of fighting is very similar to that of legendary lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Khabib too had one of the most devastating fighting styles that involved putting relentless pressure on the opponent, and then “smashing” them on the ground.
Why do people think Khamzat Chimaev is related to Khabib Nurmagomedov?
Khamzat fights out of Sweden but is originally from Chechnya which is also a part of Russia. Khabib is a fighter out of Dagestan which is very similar in terms of culture to Chechnya. Both the fighters follow the same faith and have the similar mentality of “anyone, anytime, anywhere” when it comes to fighting.
During his rise to the top, Khamzat was softened compared to Khabib by the commentators, analysts, and fans, who watched him walk through two opponents in the span of ten days. Since then there has always been a doubt in the minds of casual fans whether Khamzat and Khabib are related. But that is in fact, false.
Khabib and Khamzat are in no way related to each other and are only fighters with a lot of similarities in their fighting. The two have often been linked to each other because of their relationship with the Chechen leader, Ramzan Kadyrov. One of the main reasons for the rumors of the two being related is because of their origin.
Khamzat, like Khabib, is still undefeated in his career but still has a long way to go to be compared to the “Eagle” in terms of career achievements. many analysts and fans see the potential in Chimaev to become as great as, if not greater than Khabib in mixed martial arts.
