The champion and his team at the gym are not pleased with the sentence handed to one of the criminals that were involved in the attack on Fau. His teammate was brutally attacked on a night out and was left unconscious in the hospital. Vake, who is 25 years old suffered a concussion, bruises, cuts, and was fighting for his life in the hospital for his life. The young man lost his life and his daughter now has no father.

Ofa Folau is one of the accused involved in this attack and the New Zealand court sentenced Ofa to home detention for six months which has caused the members of City Kickboxing to protest for justice. Israel spoke to NZHerald regarding the sentence. Other UFC fighters like Brad Riddell, Dan Hooker, and Israel’s coach, Eugene Bareman were also present in the protest.

“It’s like every day or multiple times a week, I’ll just get a moment just like ‘F—k, he’s gone, physically,’” said Adesanya. “For me, I don’t have kids but the thought of his daughter still wondering when her dad is coming home, that’s the one that really kicks the most. It’s just sad. I remember in the hospital, she was asking him to wake up. That was really hard.”

“He only gets six months of home [detention] where he gets to be in the comfort of his own home and doesn’t get to work and gets to chill,” continued Adesanya. “For me, I don’t know if he can sleep at night. For me, I just don’t understand what kind of a person looks at a law like that and goes ‘Hmm, this is a bad law. Why would we put this in place?’ I don’t understand. I don’t get it.”

Brad Riddell also spoke to the publication. “The violence in New Zealand is getting pretty bad,” he said. “It’s heartbreaking.”
