Joe Rogan is pretty knowledgeable when it comes to combat sports. Therefore, when he says it is not smart to get into street fights, there must be some truth to it. The UFC color commentator recently sat down with Hollywood celebrity Dwayne Johnson and discussed multiple topics.

One of the things the duo talked about was combat sports and street fights. Dwayne asked Joe Rogan when was the last time he got into a fight. To this, Joe Rogan replied:

I never got into a street fight. It's one thing if you have to defend yourself, someone's attacking you or someone's attacking someone you love. But to just get into fights because you know how to fight is so cr*zy. "If I could do what you do I'd be beating the f**k out of people", no you wouldn't cause they'll shoot you. They're gonna f**k you up.

Joe Rogan trained in various martial arts during his teens and early 20s. Thus, Rogan is proficient in various forms of combat sports. Rogan earned a black belt in Taekwondo at the age of 15 and became a taekwondo instructor. He was the Massachusetts Full Contact Taekwondo Champion from 15 to 19 years old. At age 19, he won the US Open Taekwondo Championship as a lightweight. Rogan is also a black belt in BJJ, awarded by Jean Jacques Machado.

Joe Rogan never pursued a professional fighting career despite having a background in martial arts. In a conversation with Mike Tyson, Rogan mentioned that he decided to stop actively competing as a fighter because of the potential brain damage. Rogan, then 19 years old, successfully landed a knockout kick as a teenager. Regrettably, the opponent never recovered from the blow and had to be carried away in a stretcher.

However, Rogan has discussed strategies to win street fights, suggesting that waiting for the right moment is crucial. Joe Rogan advised adopting a defensive stance with hands up in a street fight.

According to Rogan, this approach helps exhaust the opponent and increase one’s chances of winning. Rogan suggested being proactive and aiming for a quick knockout to end the confrontation swiftly. He said taking the initiative can result in higher chances of coming out without much damage.
