“I don’t see myself fighting Conor,” Jose Aldo ends speculations for a rematch against Conor McGregor

The former UFC Featherweight Champion, Jose Aldo moved an inch closer to the Bantamweight title shot with a win against Pedro Munhoz in the co-main event of UFC 265. Aldo put on a spectacular performance against Munhoz and secured the second straight win in the division.

As soon the fight ends, ESPN commentators Max Kellerman and Chael Sonnen re-ignited the talks about his rematch against the former two times UFC champion, Conor McGregor.

Aldo and McGregor faced each other in the main event of UFC 194 and this fight lasted only 13 seconds, with ‘The Notorious’ dethroning Jose Aldo from his crown. Aldo insisted on an immediate rematch after the fight but Conor McGregor moved to the Lightweight division for the second title.

Now, Jose Aldo is on two straight wins in the Bantamweight division and Conor McGregor has won only one out of his last five fights. With this current scenario, the Brazilian champion feels there is no need for this rematch to happen.

In his latest interview with MMA Fighting, Aldo says, “That’s what I don’t understand, brother, Back when it should have happened like they are going [other] rematches and trilogies, I didn’t have the opportunity, no one considered anything, and each one went their way. Now that the situation has inverted again, it feels like they have the obligation to book it.”

“No, I don’t see myself fighting Conor. Never, I think. I can even say that. It might happen tomorrow, but that’s not the path. I root for him today, I hope he recovers from the injury and fights again at the highest level, and becomes champion again because that way he and I will always be together. No matter if I’m down and he’s up or the other way around, people will always put out names together, and that way we carry each other up.” {H/T MMA Fighting}

Jose Aldo made his Bantamweight debut against Marlon Moraes on UFC 245 in December 2019 and now he insists to stay in this weight division and fight for the title. On the other hand, McGregor can fight even in the Welterweight division on his comeback.

Aldo concluded, “No, man, there’s no way, I’m going after a fight for the belt, I want to build this career at bantamweight and make history this way. I’m happy that Sonnen and others are talking about this rematch, but I don’t see myself [fighting him]. I see my next fight being at bantamweight, and that way we’ll be close to fighting for the belt.” {H/T MMA Fighting}
