“I might have to go drag Canelo out,” Kamaru Usman pitches a super fight with boxing legend Canelo Alvarez
Kamaru Usman and Canelo Alvarez
The UFC Welterweight champion, Kamaru Usman finally secured the number one rank in men’s pound for pound rankings in the promotion. Usman displaced Jon Jones from the number one spot who competed last in early 2020.
Jones was recently arrested for battery domestic violence charges just a few days before losing his number one spot. In a recent interview with The Schmo, Usman shared his thoughts on achieving the number one spot in rankings. ‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ says,
“You tell me. I don’t know. I’ve felt like that, I’ve always performed like that, I’ve always trained like that. You know, I guess it’s better late than never for everyone to realize that.”
Usman is booked to defend his title against the former UFC Welterweight champion, Colby Covington in the main event of UFC 268. He already fought two times this year and defended his title against Gilbert Burns and Jorge Masvidal. Now the champ is assured that he is going to do it for the third time.
Kamaru Usman entertains the idea of superfight with Canelo Alvarez
‘The Nigerian Nightmare’ has rightfully claimed the number one pound for pound rankings in the biggest promotion of the world and now he is aiming to become the number one pound for pound fighter in combat sports.
Usman has earlier suggested that he wants to face Canelo Alvarez in a superfight and now he likes the idea of this showdown with the Mexican boxing sensation. Kamaru Usman added, “I might have to go drag Canelo out… you know, when he’s done with all these guys that he’s running through.”
“It’s never been done, I might have to drag him, if not in the Octagon, I might have to drag him in the ring and actually take him. Because pound-for-pound, it’s never been done. Pound-for-pound MMA fighter and pound-for-pound boxer. So, that might be next if these guys can’t prove that they’re the next number one contender.”
