“We all will suffer setbacks,” Michael Chandler handles his loss at UFC 262 to Charles Oliveira with class and respect
Michael Chandler after UFC 262
Michael Chandler has taken his loss at UFC 262 to Charles Oliveira really well then one would have expected. Iron Mike has been on a run of interviews since his loss and is very open to talking about it, unlike other fighters.
Chandler took on Charles Oliveira at the main event of UFC 262 for the vacant lightweight title at stake. A surprisingly dominant round from the former Bellator champion as he rocked Oliveira getting people to think he was going to knock him out. But Charles turned the fight around in the second round as he knocked out Iron Mike.
This is only the second bout of Chandler in the UFC octagon having knocked out Dan Hooker in his debut. He was offered the title shot in his very second fight with the promotion and proved that he is one of the top fighters the UFC lightweight division has. Recently, Michael appeared in an interview with ESPN MMA’s Brett Okamoto. He talked about his loss against Do Bronx with absolute character.
“We will all suffer setbacks, we will all suffer losses, we will all get black eyes, bruises and pain. It’s how you deal with those things, that’s where the true character and the true gall and the true resilience of a man is really revealed, to not just himself, but to everybody else,” he said talking to Brett Okamoto.
Michael Chandler still feels like the same man after his loss at UFC 262
“I learned a lot from my first loss back in 2013…I found comfort in the self-pity, I found comfort in the hiding from it all and the shame. I don’t say this to act like I am a beacon of mental toughness or I am a beacon of positivity, but the loss happened and I still feel like the same man I was walking into the Octagon against Charles Oliveira as I am losing the fight to Charles Oliveira,” said Mike on his loss.
“Iron” has always been a likable fighter and this interview resonates more as to why he is liked by so many people. The fighter is disappointed with the loss but is definitely not broken. He said that he is still the same man he was before the fight even after the loss to Charles Oliveira. Chandler is yet to face the majority of the division and is hoping to do so.
