Andrew Tate and his brother Tristan Tate have a huge following on social media. Despite their controversies, the brothers have always shown respect to combat sports athletes. Recently, Tristan Tate defended Dricus Du Plessis, who defeated Sean Strickland to become the undisputed middleweight champion at UFC 297.
Du Plessis is South African and a Caucasian. Therefore, some on social media subject him to racial prejudice as the continent of Africa is predominantly black in ethnicity. They question the heritage of Du Plessis. Nonetheless, people in South Africa, regardless of race, support Du Plessis. The watch parties for UFC 297 in South Africa can attest to that. Du Plessis is also very proud of his African heritage, which was evident in his post-fight speech. Tristan Tate came to defend Du Plessis on X. This is what he tweeted on X.
Saying @dricusduplessis isn’t African because he’s white is super racist. He’s African and so is Elon, do none of you know basic history? shut the fuck up.Tristan Tate via X
The younger Tate brother bashed people questioning Du Plessis’ heritage as racist. This is not the first time a UFC fighter got support from Tristan Tate. He favored Conor McGregor becoming the President of the Republic of Ireland. The Tate brothers often delve into political and cultural issues from time to time.
Du Plessis’ upcoming fight is most likely against Israel Adesanya. The two already have a backstory related to their shared African heritage. Du Plessis has called for a fight at UFC 300. Dana White has already promised to announce the main event for UFC 300 soon. Alex Pereira is the front-runner to headline the PPV.
Andrew Tate brothers’ past criticism of Sean Strickland
Sean Strickland lost the middleweight title at UFC 297 in a close fight. UFC CEO Dana White thought Strickland won the fight. Interestingly, he was a slight betting favorite at UFC 297. However, he was a big betting underdog when he won the title at UFC 293.
Before he fought for the title, Strickland appeared on the FULLSEND Podcast. On the podcast, he criticized the Tate brothers as conmen. Tristan Tate noticed the criticism and responded in kind. He explained that fighters get paid with money generated from gambling.
Tate also criticized Strickland when Strickland had an emotional meltdown on Theo Von‘s podcast. In addition to Tate, Henry Cejudo also criticized Strickland for the meltdown.
