Bryce Mitchell is definitely a favourite of the MMA community – he is a great fighter, but more so, his personality just hits the right spots with the fans.

Mitchell faces off against Ilia Topuria at UFC 282 – in the German-born Georgian, he will face the sternest test of his career, having previously fought Edson Barboza earlier this year, and in the process, knocked him down and earned the decision nod.

His record is 15-1, however, the reason he is considered undefeated is that his only loss came in the Ultimate Fighter, and for all intents and purposes, that does not really count towards a fighter’s record in the UFC. Hence, he was asked by a reporter if he would be the one to retain his undefeated status after the fight (Topuria is also undefeated), during the press conference for the fight.

In response, Mitchell said, “I really don’t brother. I don’t really care about his record or him that much and I do not consider myself undefeated. I have had my ass beat quite a bit in the gym, you know and my neighbours kicked my ass when I was little.

Continuing, he said, “I don’t see myself as undefeated, I see myself as a dude who can take an ass whooping, and who ain’t afraid of nobody.” If he ever doubted what he could potentially do after his career, motivational speaking might just be the answer for Bryce Mitchell.

Hence, it can really be seen that Mitchell is a man of steely character – it is very rare to come across someone so humble and in touch with reality, that is, in the long run, professional records do not matter that very much if the person is tied to the Earth.

And, that steely character has helped him make a mark in the promotion at just 28 years old. Mitchell started his career of in V3 Fights and the AXS TV Fights, before appearing in a couple of WSOF fights from 2016. Spotting his talent, the UFC scouts offered him a place on their show that curates grassroots talent – that is, The Ultimate Fighter. Although he lost in the semifinals, he would go on to win the format.

Since, his UFC journey has been extremely successful – officially making his debut in 2019, he has fought tough competition in the likes of Matt Sayles, Charles Rosa, Andre Fili and of course, Edson Barboza. However, he has come a cropper against all of them, and expect a similar showing in a few days’ time.
