“Want him to RESCIND his retirement,” Chael Sonnen says he is ‘crazy’ about Luke Rockhold’s career more than ever

Chael Sonnen might be on our side on this one, we too are more interested in and admiring of Luke Rockhold than ever before. Rockhold, the former Strikeforce and the former UFC middleweight champion, retired last to last weekend in his last fight against Paulo Costa at UFC 278. Though the fight went in favour of Costa, the fans elevated their respect for Rockhold for going out with one heck of a great fight in his retirement.

Rockhold in his time was certainly one of the best fighters in the world. His wins included the likes of Michael Bisping, Chris Weidman, Tim Kennedy, David Branch, Ronaldo Souza and many more. Rockhold trained at the American Kickboxing Academy alongside the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Daniel Cormier and Cain Velasquez. Sonnen took his time to appreciate the legend that Rockhold has become in the eyes of the MMA community today.

Chael Sonnen says Luke Rockhold’s way of bidding farewell felt like a ‘dream’ to him

In one of the videos on his Youtube channel, Chael Sonnen ponders upon the possible reasons why Rockhold felt like he was not given the expected treatment by the UFC and how Rockhold’s relationship with the company turned out to be similar to Andre The Giant’s relationship with the WWF, now known as WWE. In the midst of all, Sonnen reminisces his excitement as a fan on how much he misses Rockhold competing now.

“I cannot get enough of Luke Rockhold,” says Sonnen “I have never wanted to see him fight more than I do now. I want him to rescind his retirement. I have personally reached out to him, hoping that he was going to give that back to me ‘hey you know, I’ll think it over.’ [I am] crazy about Luke right now… [But] whatever stops him from continuing, that’s a very beautiful thing, truly! The way that Luke went out if, in fact, this is the end, it’s a dream!” continued Sonnen.
