Sonnen is one of the most successful Youtubers out of the MMA community and has a subscriber count of over 1 million. A former MMA-fighter, Sonnen is a former UFC title challenger for middleweight and light-heavyweight and has also fought for the Bellator MMA’s Heavyweight Grand Prix.

Sonnen is known for his wins over the likes of Mauricio Rua, Nate Marquardt, Michael Bisping, Wanderlei Silva, Quinton Jackson, Paulo Filho and many more. While the majority of the MMA community is foreseeing and wanting to see the new UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards defend his title against the preceding champion, Kamaru Usman in a trilogy fight. For Sonnen, he always believes that a fighter’s job is to get the easiest competition for the most money. Therefore, at The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, Sonnen talks about how Edwards should talk himself for fights which are worth more and less tougher than the Kamaru Usman trilogy. Other than that, Sonnen also talks about Nate Diaz, Jon Jones, Tony Ferguson and many others.

“He [Edwards] does not have to fight Usman,” says Sonnen “I mean he’s going to have to get out there, he’s going to have to get infron of this but there’s other ways he could go and he could steer this narrative. Somebody in his position that has a little bit of stroke and little bit of power now, not to mention that he’s from England where the UFC’s trying to do big business, there’s a lot of politics that favour him if he wanted to try to sidestep that rematch…” continues Sonnen.

What do you think of this, do you also agree with Sonnen? What do you think are the possible fights that could be made in favour of Edwards other than the Usman trilogy? Edwards has a historic back and forth with UFC megastar Jorge Masvidal and Jorge has been wanting to get that title shot against Edwards as evident from his recent Twitter campaign which is also boosted by Masvidal’s manager Malki Kawa. Masvidal and Edwards went on a fist fight backstage back in 2019 in London at the O2 Arena, since then the bad blood has never cooled down for neither party.
