Conor McGregor recently made his political ambitions clear. He announced via tweet his interest in becoming the President of Ireland. His interest was amidst political unrest in his country. With his outspoken persona, some even found him comparable to Donald Trump. Interestingly, McGregor supported Trump when he won the Presidency in 2016.

McGregor gave an interview to CNN where he delved into what he felt about Trump’s victory. The interview was just before his title triumph at UFC 205 against Eddie Alvarez. Nonetheless, this is what he said about Trump’s victory.

I don't really understand the election. It's a weird kind of thing for me.....I think, you know, I'm not sure what way to take it, I'm not from around here. Maybe, Maybe Donald (Trump) won't be so bad in there, Who knows!

McGregor had earlier given his opinion of Donald Trump in an interview with Rachel Nichols in July 2015. This was just days after his interim featherweight title win against Chad Mendes. In the interview, Nichols even found Trump running for office comparable to McGregor’s run in the UFC. It was an assessment that McGregor agreed with.

McGregor announced his comeback on New Year’s Eve of 2024. He announced that he will fight Michael Chandler in June 2024. Moreover, he also stated that the fight is gonna be at middleweight. McGregor has knockout victories in three weight classes from featherweight to welterweight. However, Chandler fought exclusively at lightweight in his career.

Lightweight contender calls Conor McGregor petty for fighting even after being rich

Beneil Dariush is currently on a two-fight losing skid. Before that, he had an eight-fight win streak in the division. Moreover, he has the third most wins in the UFC’s lightweight division. MMA journalist The Schmo recently interviewed Dariush, where the lightweight contender talked about Conor McGregor.

Dariush did not know how McGregor could be motivated to fight even after being rich. However, he alluded that McGregor might be petty and was adamant about defeating people who beat him. Dariush explained that he also shared the same sentiment. After going undefeated for some time in the UFC, McGregor lost to Nate Diaz, Khabib Nurmagomedov, and Dustin Poirier.

McGregor’s fight against Chandler is on the 2024 International Fight Week. His presence has already heightened the anticipation for the PPV. Dariush recently headlined UFC Austin against Arman Tsarukyan. He does not fight scheduled.
