“What a shot of an icon” – Conor McGregor once heaped praise on Muhammad Ali
Conor McGregor is a former two-division UFC champion and one of the megastars in MMA. While McGregor has a great resume, he is known for his trash-talking outside the octagon which often leads him to trouble. But when it comes to the all-time great Muhammad Ali, even the Irish trash-talker couldn’t resist praising the legend.
Back in 2021, he reposted a post from Ali’s Twitter handle. Praising the photo and his physique, McGregor wrote, “What a shot of an icon! Ali snapped them out all day long! Literal Whips! Incredible! What a quote also! A true legend and a real hero of mine, Muhammad ‘The Worlds Greatest’ Ali.”
It was heartwarming to see Conor McGregor hold Muhammad Ali in such high regard. While ‘The Notorious’ is away from the octagon currently, fans can expect to see him return soon. It will be interesting to see whom McGregor faces on his return.
Potential Notorious opponents for Conor McGregor
It’s been a while since Conor McGregor stepped inside the octagon. The last time fans saw the Irish Megastar fight was against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264, where McGregor suffered an unfortunate injury towards the end of round one. As a result, the bout had to be stopped, and Poirier won via doctor stoppage.
After suffering back-to-back losses against Poirier at UFC 257 and UFC 264, McGregor will look for redemption when he makes his much anticipated return. With there being speculations about possible opponents, names such as Dustin Porier, Tony Ferguson, and Paddy Pimblett seem perfect for the Irishman’s return.

While Poirier and McGregor share history, Tony Ferguson has unfinished business with McGregor. The duo had many heated altercations, but never fought in the octagon to date. Despite the common belief that Ferguson is out of his prime, a bout between him and McGregor would surely excite MMA fans.
On the other hand, Paddy Pimblett is a name that has escalated in UFC. The Brit is often compared to McGregor, and ‘Baddy’ recently spoke about facing the Irishman. He said, ““You never know, I could end up fighting him [Conor McGregor]. We’ll see, you don’t know what the future holds. Obviously, if someone said will you fight him, of course I’d fight him. [It] goes without saying, I’ll fight anyone.”
Despite the fact that it might take a while before McGregor and Pimblett face each other, the prospect of a fight between them seems exciting. Who do you think Conor McGregor should face when he makes his return to the octagon? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
