Conor McGregor is one of the biggest names not just in the UFC but in the whole combat sports industry. Fight fans anticipate his return to the octagon. He recently laid out an ambitious comeback plan. This could see him headlining one of the most important UFC events ever. Conor McGregor targeted a blockbuster trilogy fight against Nate Diaz at the newly constructed Las Vegas Sphere. The date for this comeback, as per McGregor, was September 16th – Mexican Independence Day.

The $1.8 billion, 18,000-seat Sphere venue promises to deliver an unparalleled live event experience. It has a state-of-the-art infrastructure that comes with impressive video and audio capabilities. Conor McGregor set his sights on headlining the architectural marvel with fireworks against his old rival, Diaz. This arena could deliver the trilogy bout between fierce rivals that fight fans have waited for many years. This is what he said:

McGregor planned to first return against Michael Chandler on June 29th. He then proposed a potential Nate Diaz trilogy. McGregor’s ambitious two-fight plan is probably wishful thinking at this point. Conor McGregor headlining the Las Vegas Sphere remains an exciting affair for fans. The 35-year-old Irishman has not competed since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in July 2021.

The Diaz rivalry is also a complicated one to rekindle. Nate is currently a free agent after his UFC contract expired following a win over Tony Ferguson. Still, a McGregor vs Diaz 3 massive event in Las Vegas would sell massively.

This timeline suggested a potential delay for McGregor’s comeback. McGregor had speculated about a June return during International Fight Week. But White’s comments indicated that the target was unlikely.
