Conor McGregor (L) has expressed interest in buying Liverpool FC (R)
Conor McGregor is one of the biggest names in the world of sports today. It would also be safe to say that his reputation transcends the world of MMA.
With the immense capital that he has been able to accrue over his years in the spotlight, Conor McGregor has also become a financial powerhouse. His big-money fight against Floyd Mayweather, which was coordinated by Dana White‘s UFC and SHOWTIME, earned him most of the fortune that he has now. Additionally, In 2021, Conor McGregor was named the sportsperson with the highest earnings in the year. And, as we fight fans know, the Irishman also loves to show it.
However, now it seems like McGregor could be in the market for another brilliant financial manoeuver. Just yesterday, Liverpool’s owners, Fenway Sports Group announced that they were looking to sell the iconic British club. McGregor had an exciting reply to this on his Twitter handle – “I WOULD LOVE IT! I requested my information on this, yes. Soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club!”, the Irishman tweeted.
This is an exciting new development, for a whole slew of reasons. Firstly, if the move can materialize, it would be great for Liverpool fans – English football fans (especially those from Manchester and Liverpool) have called for a change of ownership, preferably home-based, and Ireland is as close to home as it can get.
Secondly, Conor McGregor’s father Tony McGregor was born and briefly raised in Liverpool – it would mean something for the Irishman to go back and claim a historic piece of his roots.
