The crossover bout between Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor in 2017 was an affair of epic proportions. The crossover boxing bout saw billing as ‘The Money Fight‘ and ‘The Biggest Fight in Combat Sports History.’ Many forget that McGregor had set his eyes on Mayweather even before winning the featherweight title in 2015.
A post on X has gone viral again, that shows “The Notorious” notoriously touting a stylish suit. Instead of pinstripes, the lining of the suit read – ‘f**k you‘ repeatedly. A prime reaction noted – “Before he fought Mayweather dude was so iconic.” The build-up to the bout remains one of the greatest of all time. McGregor used his remarkable trash-talk to excite fans for the crossover bout.
Before the match, the WBC revealed that the inaugural ‘Money Belt’ was on the line for the non-titular bout. Made of Italian-made alligator leather, the 3.3 lbs hardware consisted of 24-karat gold and a plethora of gems. Despite his showmanship, McGregor failed to defeat Mayweather in his debut boxing bout.
Following the fight, Mayweather retired from professional boxing. He retired with a record of 50 wins and no losses. McGregor returned to MMA a year later. However, he has not looked great since returning to MMA.
