Two of the powerhouses of the lightweight division, Michael Chandler and Dustin Poirier have agreed to take on each other at UFC 281. Ahead of the fight, fight fans are super excited and everyone is giving their opinions on the fight. Similarly, UFC fighter Dan Hooker, who recently did an interview with Submission Radio, also shared his views on the fight. Hooker revealed that it is a hard fight to pick sides as both have a similar reputation. The fighter talked about how Chandler is dangerous in the first few rounds due to his explosive approach.

He said: “That’s a tough one to pick. Obviously, the aggression of Michael Chandler is the thing that catches people out that he’s just a very um, yeah he’s willing reckless like that’s the only way I can truly describe it. It’s like when he says he truly means it like he’s for a good time, not a long time. So, he’s always going to be an incredibly dangerous fighter early on in the first round.”

While talking about Poirier, Hooker explained how the Louisiana native has a great chin and is hard to get in the initial rounds.

“. He’s a very difficult man to catch in the first round. As the fight leads on, he’s very comfortable….he’s been in those positions for a lot of time before,” said Hooker. Having fought both of the lightweight fighters, Dan is certainly the right person when it comes to the assessment of their skills.

Both Michael Chandler and Dustin Poirier are former UFC lightweight title contenders and both lost to Charles Oliveira in the past. Chandler wanted to fight for the title once again and didn’t consider Islam Makhachev a real challenger. Before UFC 280, Chandler criticized Makhachev’s credentials for the title fight, however, things have come a long way since then.

In a recent interview with MMA On Point, Chandler said, “Islam is the real deal. I think when I was asked before about it, my answer, I stand behind it. Islam hadn’t fought anybody in that top five and not necessarily just that, but it was the fact that Charles had looked dominant…Islam came out there and showed that he was a force to be reckoned with on the feet, obviously a force to be reckoned with on the ground, and caught Charles in that choke, and we have a new champion, and his name is Islam.”
