UFC 280 is finally over, and much of our speculation regarding the pertinent storylines built up during the anticipation of the event has been answered.
We got to know who the best lightweight in the world is, if the current bantamweight champion has the requisite skill to defeat an all time great and if a young superstar, hugely billed by the UFC, belongs amongst the elite.
In the post fight press conference, we got to know a little more about other things as well. One of the principal talking points was superstar Conor McGregor’s return. And, for everyone anticipating his return, we’re afraid it’s bad news.
In the post fight press conference, a reported happened to ask Dana White about McGregor’s absence from USADA’s testing pool. They asked, “Speaking of USADA, it appears that Conor McGregor hasn’t been tested this year, will he have to complete six months before he can compete?”
To this, Dana White had a concise answer – “Yeah.” Additionally, the reporter asked him, “So he can’t return until six months?”, to which he replied, “Right.”
“The biggest star in the sport pulled himself out of the drug testing pool” – Speculation builds surrounding Conor McGregor’s absence from the USADA testing pool
For those who do not know, USADA or the US Anti Doping Agency is an organization that houses the main goal of keeping doping checks on professional athletes, in order to maintain the sanctity of fair competition.
Active fighters are tested quite regularly by the body, but that is not to say that those recovering from injuries are allowed to let loose. For instance, although the count is low, the rebounding from injury Chris Weidman was tested a total of four times this year.
However, if one were to look for Conor McGregor’s name in the database, their search would be futile. His absence from the testing pool since his horrific leg break has sparked a few rumours. A few tweets that attack this chain of thought are attached below.
While it is pure speculation, without mincing words, it can be suggested McGregor is on some type of gear to help his leg recover to the full from the injury, without any nutritional gaps. Additionally, the Irishman has packed a lot of muscle in the last six or so odd months, as he prepares for a role in the remake of Patrick Swayze’s Road House, starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal.
Whatever be the case, putting speculation aside, we will not get to see MMA’s biggest star ever inside the octagon till about April 2023.
